hopes and dreams (prophet of disaster)

.

i had a dream the other night

that shook me to the core

standing right in~front of me

(you never would before)

.

i could tell that you’d grown older

i could see it in your eyes

fast~approaching twenty~five

and just about to realise–

.

somewhere in that very dream

i met my oldest friend

standing right in~front of me

fore~telling of my end

.

i could tell that i’d grown wiser

’cause i didn’t even flinch

after living all these years

i thought “to die” must be a cinch

.

no wonder you’d appear just then

when i’d got used to see my death

my soul about to be set free

from all this world’s calamity

.

no wonder you’d appear so fast

with me about to breathe my last

my soul about to let it go

and leave yours on the earth alone

.

remember dante’s lover and the tragic day she died

full of light~n~splendour–she was only twenty~five!!!

was that the muted~message of

the dream wherein i saw my love

or was she there as prophecy

to toll~the~bell that tolls~for~me

.

with the light and the hope of

a smile in her look

in~love and in~exile, he wrote her a book

a book of which the likes of it

had never e’er been seen

three volumes~full of poetry

composed in “terza rime”

.

with the light pouring~out ’round

the side of her head

a girl from his past, took his future instead

a future he could not fore~tell

the loss of ego’s gain

visions~of~love so spiritual

they couldn’t be explained

.

***** (inspired by a dream i had about dying)

  1. Thanks for posting this, B. Martha was someone I didn’t know well, and yet I loved her brilliance, her wit, and her kindness. I very much enjoy these poems, and am tickled by her clever use of the period here. I hope you are comforted by visions of her carefree life/afterlife, as I am. Love to both of you. ♥️
