About Martha Kelch Poetry

Martha A. Kelch (January 15, 1963 – December 4, 2020) produced nearly 500 poems between the years 1998 and 2005. During intense periods of creativity, the poems seemed to flow through her from the universe onto the page. She often said that her role was merely to write them down.

The major themes of Martha’s poetry are those of life’s deepest mysteries — death, sex, and religion — as well as the various manifestations of mental illness that affected her during most of her life.

Many of Martha’s poems were inspired by the intense relationships she formed with two “muses” she met in an Indigo Girls online chat group in 1998 — “danashine” and “monkeyldy.” Others were inspired by the seasons, news events, religious holidays, and interactions with various friends, lovers and acquaintances.

Martha self-published one book of poetry – “the inferno” – as a collaboration with artist Mary Kay Williams.

This blog will introduce Martha Kelch’s poetry to the world. We will post new poems periodically.
