first kiss (on a night like this)

2 october 1998 *** 9:05pm

.

it’s a beautiful night

stars shine through clouds

back-lit by moonlight

i’m thinking of you

.

what a perfect evening

to give a first kiss

held close in a shadow

on a night like this

.

best chance —

you missed it

.

best chance–

slept through

.

perfect evening

beautiful view

thinking it’s right

thinking of you

.

(thinking it’s right)

.

but i’ll never tell you

throw your head in a whirl

i’ll be patiently waiting

waiting on my girl

.

what a beautiful night

stars shining through

clouds lit by moonlight

i’m thinking of you

.

it’s a perfect evening

it’s a perfect bliss

held close in a shadow

on a night like this

.

best chance–

you missed it

.

best chance–

slept through

.

i’m perfectly happy

just thinking of you

.

best chance–

you guessed it

.

best chance–

i lied

.

you’re perfectly beautiful

when you’re thinking it’s right

.

but i’ll never tell you

throw your head in a whirl

i’ll be patiently waiting

waiting on my girl

.

***** (for firefly, my little buddha, who dropped heaven in my lap

and then just plain disappeared!!!)

  1. I chose to post this poem because, out of the blue, firefly herself reached out to me! Martha had mailed her several volumes of poetry back in the late 1990s. Firefly had kept them over several moves, but was planning another move and wanted to see if I wanted the copies.
